School Counselor

About the role

The International School of Choueifat, part of the SABIS network, is looking for a School Counselor. The counselor supports students' academic progress, social and personal development and emotional well-being, offering individual and group counseling, advising on academic performance and working with teachers, parents and school leadership to create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling sessions addressing students' academic, emotional, social and behavioral needs.
• Help students cope with stress, anxiety, peer relationships and self-esteem issues, building resilience and positive coping strategies.
• Develop action plans for students needing extra academic support, working with the Academic Quality Controller and the Student Life Coordinator, and guide students in goal setting and study skills.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student counseling records in line with school policy and professional standards.
• Assist and mentor students during transitions such as grade changes, school transfers and preparation for post-secondary education and careers.
• Collaborate with teachers, leadership and parents on school events and student well-being.
• Design and run school-wide bullying prevention initiatives and counseling workshops on social-emotional learning, mental health awareness and life skills.
• Take part in administrative and child protection meetings, report student safety concerns and follow safeguarding protocols.
• Share insights with colleagues on student well-being and behavior management, and perform other tasks assigned by management.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education or an equivalent; a Master's degree is a plus.
• English proficiency; knowledge of the local language is a plus.
• A teaching certificate is a plus.
• Previous experience in a school or educational setting; SABIS experience is a plus.
• Candidates must meet state and/or federal education and certification requirements, and pass criminal background and reference checks and skills testing where required.
