Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Hikma is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead its legal activities across Egypt and the wider MENA region. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and supporting corporate governance initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate all types of legal contracts for internal and external parties, ensuring completeness and compliance with the MENA legal framework.
• Provide legal opinions on issues arising in Egypt and develop, update, and maintain legal policies and SOPs.
• Prepare corporate resolutions, liaise with authorities, and maintain correct legal status for all Hikma entities in Egypt.
• Manage day‑to‑day departmental operations to ensure adherence to standards and procedures.
• Interact with external legal advisors, ministries, and oversee litigation matters with external law firms, representing Hikma before courts and authorities as needed.
• Monitor and review intellectual property matters, regulatory and legal affairs, and coordinate with internal departments to protect Hikma’s rights.
• Maintain physical and electronic filing systems, supervise archiving, and ensure proper contract administration.
• Participate in internal investigations, special projects, mergers & acquisitions, and due‑diligence activities.
• Supervise subordinates, ensuring efficient and policy‑compliant work.
• Assist in budget preparation, monitor expenditures, and contribute to legal department strategy development.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Law (English section mandatory; French section a plus) and a license to practice law; an M.A. in Law is a plus.
• Minimum 9 + years of relevant experience at a top law firm and/or in‑house legal department.
• Fluency in Arabic and English; French is a plus.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
• Detail‑oriented, resourceful, with strong follow‑through and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Excellent intercultural communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
