Inpatient Head Nurse

About the role

The Inpatient Head Nurse leads the nursing team within the inpatient unit, ensuring safe, high‑quality patient care while interpreting and applying hospital policies, procedures, and regulations. This role balances clinical duties with staff supervision and resource management.

Key responsibilities

• Organize and direct daily functions of the inpatient unit, including patient flow, staffing schedules, and supply utilization.
• Interpret and implement established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards for staff, patients, and medical personnel.
• Monitor workflow, productivity, and unit performance; adjust processes to improve service delivery.
• Supervise, orient, train, and evaluate nursing staff; address grievances and maintain positive employee relations.
• Conduct regular unit inspections for compliance; take corrective action when violations occur.
• Maintain accurate patient records, ensure confidentiality, and oversee proper patient identification.
• Collaborate with physicians during rounds, assist with examinations, and execute physician orders.
• Develop and adjust patient care plans in cooperation with staff nurses and support discharge planning.
• Coordinate with other hospital departments to ensure seamless inpatient operations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience supervising nursing staff in an inpatient setting.
• Strong knowledge of hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient rights.
• Ability to manage resources efficiently and control costs.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in aseptic, sterile, and isolation techniques.
• Competence in maintaining and updating patient medical records.
• Ability to develop, implement, and monitor patient care plans.
• Familiarity with hospital supply requisition and equipment maintenance.
