International Midwifery Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Arab States Regional Office is seeking an experienced International Consultant to strengthen midwifery across the Arab region. The consultant will support the implementation of the regional midwifery strategic framework, advise national decision‑makers, and help expand high‑quality, midwifery‑led models of care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to countries developing or updating national midwifery strategies, curricula, and regulatory frameworks.
• Support the Arab Regional Midwifery Advisory Group (ARMAG) in empowering emerging midwifery leaders.
• Facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity‑building activities among regional stakeholders.
• Contribute to UNFPA’s strategic objectives on maternal and newborn health, including the “three zeros” agenda.
• Prepare analytical reports, policy briefs, and recommendations for UNFPA and partner agencies.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in midwifery practice, education, or policy within the Arab States.
• Demonstrated ability to work with governments, NGOs, and UN agencies.
• Strong cultural understanding and fluency in Arabic and English.
• Proven track record of leading technical projects and influencing health policy.

• Midwifery expertise and knowledge of international standards (e.g., WHO).
• Policy analysis and strategic planning.
• Stakeholder engagement and facilitation.
• Report writing and presentation skills.
