Domestic Assistant – Healthcare Cleaning

About the role

The Domestic Assistant will deliver a high‑quality cleaning service across the Vale Centre for Health & Care in Alexandria. Working evenings, you will help maintain a safe, hygienic and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors in line with NHS Scotland standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine domestic cleaning according to agreed schedules and frequencies.
• Use cleaning agents safely and economically, following manufacturer instructions.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and follow infection‑prevention colour‑coding systems.
• Dispose of waste in accordance with NHS policies and respond to audit‑identified rectifications.
• Support bed‑screen or curtain changes and other hygiene tasks as required.
• Adhere to Health & Safety, manual‑handling and fire‑safety procedures.

Required profile

• Willingness to work flexible evening hours (Monday‑Thursday 18:00‑20:30, Friday 18:00‑20:00).
• Commitment to high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and customer service.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a healthcare setting.

Required skills

• Knowledge of domestic cleaning procedures and use of cleaning machinery.
• Understanding of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
• Familiarity with infection‑prevention and control practices.
• Basic health and safety and manual‑handling awareness.
