Finance Assistant – Regional Office (Cairo)

About the role

The Finance Assistant supports the International Operational Manager and Finance Associate in delivering high‑quality finance and budget services for the Arab States Regional Office. The role ensures accurate, consistent financial operations in line with UNFPA policies and collaborates closely with operations, programme and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the International Operational Manager and Finance Associate in managing the regional office’s financial and budgetary applications, ensuring compliance with UNFPA financial controls and policies.
• Process payments, travel reimbursements and vendor invoices, reconcile statements, and maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
• Support budget development and monitoring for operations, track receivables, clear suspense accounts and prepare documentation for reimbursements.
• Coordinate with programme and technical teams to verify supporting documents for payments and resolve financial accountability issues.
• Maintain filing systems, assist with year‑end closure activities and contribute to monthly and quarterly financial reports.

Required profile

• High school diploma and at least five years of financial and administrative experience in the public or private sector.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
• Ability to interpret and explain financial rules, regulations and procedures.
• Demonstrated integrity, commitment to UNFPA values and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP accounting systems.
• Advanced use of spreadsheets for financial analysis.
• Competence in word processing and other computerized accounting tools.
