Freelance Civil Engineer - ICE Review of Railway Track Works

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is looking for a freelance Independent Checking Engineer (ICE) to review the detailed design of railway track works. The ICE provides an independent technical assessment of the design, identifies discrepancies, deficiencies or non-compliances, and issues formal assessment reports used as supporting input for the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certification.

Key responsibilities

• Review the Trackworks Detailed Design against the Employer's Requirements and contractual requirements.
• Verify compliance with applicable international railway standards and codes.
• Review track alignment, geometry, interfaces and related design parameters.
• Review design reports, drawings, Civil 3D models, alignment and surface XML files and other technical documentation.
• Identify discrepancies, technical concerns and design deficiencies, and review revised submissions where required.
• Coordinate with the CJV, the Trackworks Designer and other stakeholders, and take part in technical meetings and video conferences.
• Prepare and issue formal independent assessment reports for each design submission.

Required profile

• Civil engineering degree.
• At least 15 years of hands-on experience in International Railway Standards.
• Solid knowledge of track alignment documentation, trackworks drawings, detailed design reports, as-built survey information and other technical documents needed for the review.
• Ability to travel relatively frequently within Egypt.
