Laboratory Coordinator – Biology & Chemistry Labs

About the role

The Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Louisiana State University of Alexandria seek a Laboratory Coordinator to manage daily operations of teaching laboratories. The role supports faculty and students, ensures safety compliance, and maintains laboratory resources.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up laboratory experiments for biology and chemistry courses.
• Maintain accurate inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; place orders as needed.
• Ensure all laboratory practices comply with institutional, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Oversee cleaning, calibration, and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments; arrange repairs or replacements.
• Assist students and faculty during lab sessions, providing guidance on equipment use and safe practices.
• Train students and teaching assistants on safety protocols and equipment operation.
• Maintain records of laboratory usage, inventory, and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
• Experience supporting academic laboratory environments.
• Knowledge of safety regulations for chemical and biological labs.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff.
