Principal Engineer – Design Enablement PDK & Device Library (Silicon Photonics)

About the role

GlobalFoundries is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead design enablement for its silicon‑photonic Process Design Kits (PDKs). The role focuses on creating and maintaining device libraries, PCell development, and automation tools that support both internal test sites and customer layouts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design components and Cadence PCells for the device library of silicon‑photonic PDKs.
• Support layout design activities for internal test sites and customer projects.
• Create, deploy, and maintain the PDK collection, including tech files and runtime code for EDA tools.
• Develop automation scripts and tools that represent the fab process.
• Review process design rules and SPICE model documents to generate specification data.
• Design and maintain test cases for DRC, LVS and perform quality‑assurance checks.
• Produce release notes, application notes and document known limitations for customers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
• 4‑5 years of industry experience (BS) or equivalent advanced degree with relevant experience.
• Strong technical problem‑solving ability and fluent English communication.
• Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented and able to work effectively in a team.

Required skills

• Cadence IC, Cadence OrCAD, Protel or similar CAD tools.
• Cadence Virtuoso layout, schematic and Skill programming.
• Scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl, Bash.
• Unix/Linux environment.
• Knowledge of silicon photonics, SPICE modeling, DRC and LVS.
• Familiarity with machine learning or generative AI is a plus.
