Senior Functional Safety Engineer

About the role

The Senior Functional Safety Engineer will lead safety activities for autonomous vehicle functions, focusing on heavy‑truck systems. You will work on hazard analysis, safety concept definition, and coordination with distributed development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define item definitions for autonomous vehicle functions and develop functional safety concepts according to IEC 61508 / ISO 26262.
• Perform Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and safety analyses such as DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA.
• Develop functional and technical safety requirements and security controls for system‑level design.
• Coordinate with distributed teams to manage security scope during software development.
• Assess external supplier proposals for risk‑management objectives and support safety audits.

Required profile

• BS in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience with IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 standards.
• Experience in system engineering for autonomous trucks or passenger vehicles.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and make independent decisions.

Required skills

• Safety analysis methods: DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA.
• Standards: IEC 61508, ISO 26262.
• Application Lifecycle Management and system modeling tools: IBM DNG, IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational Team Concert.
• Familiarity with Agile software development processes.
