Senior-Lead Roads and Highways Design Engineer

About the role

Dar Al-Handasah Consultants is looking for an experienced Senior‑Lead Roads and Highways Design Engineer to join its Transportation Department in Cairo. The role involves leading the design and delivery of road and highway projects while ensuring compliance with international standards and project timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and execute design work for roads and highways projects.
• Apply international codes such as AASHTO and Middle East Road Standards.
• Prepare design documents, drawings, calculations, technical reports, BIM models, BOQs and specifications.
• Ensure timely submission of deliverables according to project schedules.
• Collaborate with global design centres, discipline leads and technical specialists.
• Perform geometric design, alignment, modelling and analysis using advanced software.
• Support project presentations and contribute to technical reviews.
• Uphold quality, safety and organisational standards in all outputs.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate proactive problem‑solving.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (mandatory); Master’s in Highway/Transportation Engineering is a plus.
• 7–12 years of proven experience in roads and highways design, preferably on international projects in the Gulf region.
• Strong knowledge of international and regional road design standards.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Experience using AutoTURN.
• Familiarity with InfraWorks (and Dynamo as a plus).
• Knowledge of BIM processes and software such as Navisworks.
