Senior Linux System Engineer

About the role
ServerHub is seeking a Senior Linux System Engineer to lead the design, deployment and maintenance of its high‑performance hosting platforms. The role is based in Egypt and will involve working with a global team to ensure services are secure, scalable and available 24/7.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the L3 escalation point for complex server, hosting and network incidents, diagnosing and resolving critical failures.
- Administer and optimise Linux environments (CentOS, Ubuntu, RHEL) and web stack components such as Apache, Nginx, LiteSpeed, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis and Memcached.
- Build, configure and harden servers from scratch, applying best‑practice security settings (SELinux/AppArmor, firewalls, IDS/IPS).
- Develop automation scripts (Bash, Python, Perl) and use tools like Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or Chef for provisioning and configuration management.
- Deploy and manage virtualization and container platforms including KVM, OpenStack, VMware, Docker and Kubernetes, as well as cloud services on AWS, Google Cloud and Azure.
- Implement monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios) and participate in on‑call rotation for incident response.
- Collaborate with NOC, DevOps and engineering teams, providing mentorship to L1/L2 support engineers.
Required profile
- Minimum 11 years of hands‑on Linux system administration in a web‑hosting or cloud environment.
- At least 7 years in a senior or L3 engineering role.
- Deep expertise with KVM and virtualization technologies.
- Strong knowledge of web‑hosting tools (cPanel, Plesk, WHM, LAMP/LEMP stacks).
- Excellent English communication skills.
