Underground Maintenance Leading Hand

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Underground Maintenance Leading Hand to provide visible safety leadership and hands‑on guidance to our underground workshop and mobile maintenance teams at the Sukari gold mine in Marsa Alam, Egypt. The role coordinates safe, efficient maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical and welding disciplines, ensuring equipment reliability for both underground and surface operations.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce strict compliance with underground mining statutory requirements, site risk assessments and isolation standards while modelling zero‑harm behaviours.
• Mentor and coordinate a diverse team of national and expatriate tradespeople, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Act as the primary liaison between operations and maintenance, communicating equipment status, shift handovers and priorities.
• Plan and execute preventative and reactive maintenance for workshop and underground mobile equipment to minimise repeat failures and unplanned downtime.
• Lead daily Toolbox Talks, reliability reviews and planning meetings, encouraging team input and upholding technical standards.

Required profile

• Mechanical or Auto‑Electrical trade certification (local equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years experience in underground mobile maintenance.
• Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Familiarity with both underground and surface mobile maintenance systems.
• Basic computer and diagnostic skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to obtain an underground driver’s licence.
• Good written and verbal English.
• Strong autonomous work ethic and leadership qualities.
