Underground Workshop Maintenance Fitter

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Underground Workshop Maintenance Fitter to lead our underground workshop and mobile maintenance teams at the Sukari gold mine. The role involves coordinating safe and efficient maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical and welding disciplines, both in the workshop and underground.

Key responsibilities

• Execute preventive maintenance on underground equipment using OEM service sheets (e.g., CAT SIS, Sandvik) and site standards.
• Perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and power‑train repairs and overhauls to restore functionality and extend asset life.
• Conduct diagnostic troubleshooting on complex engine and hydraulic systems to minimise downtime.
• Provide rapid breakdown response both in the workshop and underground, ensuring safe return‑to‑service.
• Plan and execute rigging, heavy lifting and stored‑energy tasks (e.g., nitrogen accumulator charging) within strict exclusion zones.
• Interpret OEM manuals, identify required parts, complete detailed work orders and maintain accurate service documentation.
• Lead safety and compliance by applying Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out procedures, performing risk assessments and promoting a zero‑harm environment.
• Manage hazardous waste (oils, filters) according to environmental standards and maintain an organised workshop.

Required profile

• Technical or vocational diploma / trade certificate in Diesel or Mechanical fitting.
• Valid driver’s licence and medical clearance for underground access.
• Minimum three years of heavy‑equipment maintenance experience in mining, construction or heavy industry (underground mobile equipment preferred).
• OEM‑specific training (CAT, Sandvik, Normet, Volvo) and certifications in hydraulic troubleshooting and rigging are advantageous.
