Control System Engineer

About the role

The Control System Engineer will maintain, troubleshoot, and install process control systems, communication networks, and instrumentation for the Gold Processing Plant at the Sukari mine near Marsa Alam, Egypt. Reporting to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Electrical department, the role focuses on improving plant performance, reducing unplanned downtime, and increasing overall equipment availability.

Key responsibilities

• Perform control system and instrumentation maintenance while rapidly addressing emergency breakdowns.
• Fault‑find, program, and install Siemens PLCs (Step 7) and WinCC SCADA systems; configure Profibus devices and Siemens/Schneider variable speed drives.
• Identify plant defects and performance bottlenecks, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive continuous‑improvement projects.
• Plan and schedule preventive maintenance tasks within the SGM Enterprise Asset Management framework.
• Enforce Management of Change (MOC) procedures for all hardware/software modifications and keep electrical/instrumentation drawings up to date.
• Coordinate with OEMs and procurement to ensure correct component cataloguing and adequate stock levels.
• Train and mentor the electrical team on process‑control principles, safety protocols, and hazard reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in control‑system maintenance and breakdown rectification in an industrial setting.
• Hands‑on experience with PLC and SCADA optimization, especially Siemens technologies.
• Familiarity with preventive‑maintenance planning using asset‑management software.
