Migration Health Physician

About the role

The Migration Health Physician supports the daily operations of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) within IOM’s Migration Health Division. The role delivers high‑quality medical services to refugees and migrants undergoing health assessments for resettlement, while ensuring compliance with IOM standards, infection‑prevention measures and quality management procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct migration health assessments for refugees and immigrants destined for Canada, Australia and other countries.
• Provide medical assistance, coordinate referrals, and follow up on treatment outcomes.
• Identify special health needs, advocate with partners, and ensure gender‑sensitive service delivery.
• Undertake health‑needs assessments, monitor emergency response, and support voluntary humanitarian return processes.
• Lead health promotion activities, liaise with community leaders, and manage medical equipment and supplies.

Required profile

• University degree in Medicine with at least two years of continuous clinical experience; specialization in emergency medicine, obstetrics, anesthesiology or related fields is an advantage.
• Proven experience in community outreach, monitoring and evaluation, and working in emergency or humanitarian settings.
• Fluency in English and Arabic; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness to travel as required for field missions and medical convoys.
