Principal Hardware Product Development Engineer / Head of Mechatronics

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Hardware Product Development Engineer who will also lead our Mechatronics function. The role covers the full lifecycle of complex civilian hardware products, from concept through design, prototyping, testing and production release, while managing multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end product development lifecycle, from requirements definition to manufacturing release.
• Define system architecture, subsystem boundaries and verification methods.
• Design mechanical assemblies, create 3D models, detailed drawings and assembly specifications.
• Select components and materials based on performance, cost, availability and serviceability.
• Lead electronics and firmware integration, coordinating specialist engineers and ensuring reliable operation.
• Supervise prototype build, testing, troubleshooting and iterative improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience delivering complete hardware products, including manufacturing or field deployment.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams while remaining hands‑on.
• Strong technical English and ability to communicate clearly with suppliers and engineering teams.

Required skills

• Advanced mechanical design using SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX or CATIA.
• GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection and thermal‑expansion considerations.
• CNC machining, CAM programming, G‑code, tooling and fixture design.
• Sheet‑metal fabrication, welding, casting, injection molding, surface finishing and 3D printing.
• Mechatronics integration: motors, actuators, sensors, encoders, industrial controllers and motion‑control systems.
• Electronics and embedded systems: microcontrollers, power supplies, PCB integration, firmware debugging and EMC compliance.
• Prototyping, assembly, validation testing and reliability assessment.
