AI Engineer – Build AI Data Backbone & RAG Systems

About the role

Vodafone is looking for an AI Engineer to strengthen its AI data backbone and enable Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities across the organisation. You will work with large‑scale data lakes, LLM providers and modern CI/CD pipelines to deliver robust AI features.

Key responsibilities

• Write scripts to extract, clean and chunk structured and unstructured data from the central Lakehouse into feature stores and RAG systems.
• Design, test and version‑control prompts, system instructions and JSON tool‑calling schemas for multiple LLM providers.
• Build repeatable evaluation pipelines for classical machine‑learning models and large language models.
• Package AI features and data workflows using Git, Jenkins or equivalent automation tools.

Required profile

• Strong software discipline: clean, modular, asynchronous Python code, complex SQL queries, strict Git and CI/CD practices.
• Hands‑on experience building retry‑able ETL/ELT pipelines and efficient PySpark jobs for large training and evaluation datasets.
• Deep knowledge of vector embeddings, semantic search, and AI orchestration frameworks for Retrieval‑Augmented Generation.
• Experience with model evaluation tools and AI quality‑assurance methodologies.
• Comfortable with basic Linux administration, Bash scripting, monitoring and automation of AI services.
