Fitout Mechanical Engineer - Malls

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer specialised in fit‑out projects for shopping malls. The successful candidate will act as the technical bridge between tenants, contractors and the mall engineering team to ensure all mechanical installations meet the mall’s design guidelines and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Introduce tenants to the mall engineering fit‑out criteria and design guidelines.
• Inspect retail units, coordinate mechanical tie‑ins and hand over completed work to tenants.
• Review tenant mechanical designs to verify compliance with mall guidelines.
• Ensure material compliance with approved vendor lists (pipes, valves, sprinklers, HVAC units, ducts, pumps, fans, etc.).
• Respond to tenant inspection requests throughout all fit‑out phases (start‑fit, first fix, installations, voids closure, testing and commissioning).
• Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the broader project workforce.
• Attend regular meetings with clients, architects and engineers to report progress.
• Plan and organise site fit‑out activities to meet contractual deadlines.
• Oversee on‑site quality control, health and safety and prepare required reports.
• Resolve unexpected technical issues that arise during the project.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in the retail/mall industry.
• Very good spoken and written English.

Required skills

• Mechanical design review and compliance checking.
• Knowledge of plumbing, drainage and fire‑fighting pipe systems.
• Experience with HVAC units, duct routing, ventilation ducts and dampers.
• Proficiency in pressure testing, isolation testing, meter reading and balance testing of AC systems.
• Familiarity with material compliance and vendor‑approved component lists.
• Ability to coordinate mechanical tie‑ins and supervise on‑site installations.
