General Manager

About the role

The General Manager provides operational leadership for a landscape architecture practice, ensuring efficient day‑to‑day management, coordinated project delivery and a high‑performing team. Working closely with the Director, this role implements strategic objectives, develops business systems and fosters a collaborative workplace culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and continuously improve operational systems, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate resources across projects to optimise staff utilisation and monitor operational performance.
• Lead regular operational planning and coordination meetings, manage operational risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain oversight of the project portfolio, monitor progress, facilitate review meetings and support consistent project management practices.
• Promote effective communication and collaboration across project teams.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management and professional development processes.
• Foster an inclusive, accountable workplace culture and promote staff wellbeing.
• Support business development by coordinating proposals, tender responses and marketing initiatives, and maintaining the CRM system.
• Oversee office operations, technology platforms, business systems and ensure policies, templates and documentation remain current.
• Coordinate workplace health and safety, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in operational leadership within a professional services or design practice.
• Strong people‑management capabilities, including recruitment, performance review and staff development.
• Ability to coordinate cross‑functional teams and drive efficiency improvements.
