Inpatient Head Nurse

About the role

The Inpatient Head Nurse leads the nursing team within the hospital’s inpatient unit, ensuring high‑quality patient care, safety, and compliance with all policies and regulations. This position combines direct patient care responsibilities with supervisory duties, overseeing staff performance, workflow, and resource utilization.

Key responsibilities

• Organize and direct daily functions of the inpatient medical care unit.
• Interpret and implement hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards for staff, patients, and physicians.
• Monitor workflow, productivity, and unit performance; adjust processes to improve service delivery.
• Supervise, orient, train, and evaluate nursing staff; handle grievances and maintain employee relations.
• Conduct regular unit inspections for compliance and take corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records, ensure proper patient identification, and oversee charting completeness.
• Develop and adjust patient care plans in collaboration with staff nurses and physicians.
• Assist with discharge planning and provide education to patients and families.
• Coordinate supplies, equipment, and inter‑departmental activities to support uninterrupted patient care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in inpatient care.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a hospital setting.
• Strong knowledge of aseptic, sterile, and isolation techniques.
• Ability to analyze unit needs, recommend improvements, and implement changes.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and families.
