International Fisheries Management Consultant

About the role

WorldFish is seeking an International Fisheries Management Consultant to provide technical leadership for the Red Sea Large Marine Ecosystem project. The consultant will support the design and implementation of regional and national fisheries management frameworks aligned with the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) and global best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Support the establishment and operation of the Regional Fisheries Management Working Group.
• Lead the development of Regional Fisheries Management Plans (RFMPs) for priority fisheries.
• Guide the preparation of National Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) consistent with EAF principles.
• Review and strengthen national fisheries policies, regulations, and institutional capacity.
• Provide technical input on management measures such as effort control, closed seasons, gear restrictions, and by‑catch reduction.
• Strengthen Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) systems and develop fisheries management indicators.
• Facilitate data‑informed decision‑making and stakeholder engagement across beneficiary countries.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in fisheries science, marine ecology, natural resource management or a related field.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing fisheries management plans at regional or national levels.
• Familiarity with the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries and international fisheries governance frameworks.
• Experience working with multi‑country projects and regional bodies such as RECOFI.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in fisheries management measures (effort control, gear restrictions, by‑catch mitigation).
• Knowledge of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) systems.
• Ability to develop and apply fisheries management indicators.
