Junior Production Engineer - CKD Assembly

About the role

General Motors is looking for a Junior Production Engineer to support day-to-day assembly operations in its CKD manufacturing environment. This is an entry-level, onsite role reporting to the GM office full time, working alongside experienced production engineers and cross-functional teams to keep production flowing, improve line performance and uphold quality, safety and efficiency standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily output, line performance, downtime and production plan attainment, and help identify and escalate production constraints
• Assist with line balancing, workstation reviews, manpower planning and material and operator flow improvements
• Collect and analyse basic production data, prepare reports and communicate findings
• Take part in root-cause investigations using tools such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams, and follow up on corrective and preventive actions
• Contribute to GMS, lean manufacturing, standardized work and continuous improvement, and support launch, pilot and process-change documentation
• Maintain process documentation such as work instructions, process layouts and production records
• Support quality teams with process checks, basic validation and quality requirements
• Promote safe work practices, good housekeeping and ergonomics, and report hazards promptly

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in production engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or a related discipline
• Recent graduate or up to 2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, continuous improvement or operations; internships or shop-floor experience are an advantage
• Interest in automotive manufacturing and willingness to learn assembly processes in a CKD environment; body shop experience (welding, riveting, metal finishing) is an advantage

Required skills

• Basic understanding of production processes, assembly operations and manufacturing workflows
• Familiarity with 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams and basic A3 problem solving
• Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing, waste identification and quality fundamentals (PFMEA)
• Ability to interpret basic production data with Microsoft Excel or similar
• AutoCAD, Teamcenter or MS Project, and Power BI, are advantages
