Lab Assistant – Migration Health Assessment Centre

About the role

Under the supervision of the Senior Migration Health Nurse, the Laboratory Assistant will support daily laboratory operations of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Cairo, following IOM’s technical instructions, standard operating procedures and quality management standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑examination, examination and post‑examination laboratory procedures using standard equipment.
• Implement and monitor laboratory quality management systems, acting as focal point for designated quality system essentials.
• Maintain biosafety standards and ensure safe handling of specimens and equipment.
• Conduct quality control and assurance activities, documenting results and reporting any issues.
• Organize and operate activities on assigned stations for efficient and timely delivery of results.
• Alert the laboratory supervisor to operational problems, including equipment, stock and biosafety concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least three years of clinical laboratory experience (or diploma with five years).
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems, biosafety principles and clinical laboratory techniques.
• Computer literate with ability to collect and analyze data for continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated awareness of the laboratory’s role within health systems.
