Librarian

About the role

SABIS, a global education network present in 21 countries, is hiring a Librarian for its school in the New Administrative Capital of Cairo. The role ensures that the school library is kept in good order and remains a welcoming place for students to learn. It is listed under the Administration department.

Key responsibilities

• Help students find the information they need by analysing their needs and showing them how to access it, including navigating the Internet
• Coordinate programmes such as Accelerated Reader (AR)
• Gather and provide materials for classroom instruction, and lend and collect books, periodicals, video tapes and other materials
• Inspect returned items for damage, check due dates and compute fines for overdue material
• Read book reviews, publisher announcements and catalogs to keep up with current literature
• Develop and index databases and help train users in research skills
• Sort returned items and return them to their shelves, files or storage areas
• Negotiate contracts for the acquisition of materials and equipment
• Compile subject lists of books, periodicals, articles and audiovisual materials, and analyse collections to recommend material
• Maintain records of students who must study in the library and coordinate with the supervisor on tardiness and absences
• Submit a daily report on library activities and supervise students

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science
• Well-read and informed about books
• English proficiency and communication skills
• Strong organisational skills, punctuality and a conscientious, responsible attitude
• Meets all employment requirements, including country and local education and certification requirements, reference checks and criminal background checks
