Manager – Banking Legal Services (Francophone)

About the role

The Manager, Banking Legal Services reports to the Director of Banking Legal Services and supports the Legal Department in delivering commercial, legally sound solutions that enable the Bank to expand African trade. The role focuses on providing tailored advice to the Bank and its subsidiaries across a wide range of banking and finance matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal and strategic advice on banking, finance, loan products, and special projects, identifying potential legal risks.
• Assist in planning, organising, and implementing legal support for business activities, including research of precedents and preparation of standardised documentation.
• Interpret and apply laws and regulations, ensuring adequate controls to mitigate legal and compliance risks.
• Coordinate the engagement of external counsel to obtain value‑for‑money legal services.
• Advise on borrowing strategies, capital‑market transactions, and asset‑liability management procedures.
• Support equity participations, grants, co‑financing agreements, and represent the Bank in negotiations, disputes, and consultations.
• Serve as legal stakeholder on internal committees, working groups, and advocacy initiatives related to the Bank’s development mandate.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with substantial experience in banking and finance law.
• Fluent in French (Francophone) and able to work in an international, multicultural environment.
• Strong analytical abilities and capacity to provide commercially focused legal solutions.
