Mechanical Design Engineer – Sheet Metal & Diesel Generator Enclosures

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will create and optimise engineering solutions for diesel generator enclosures and sheet‑metal products. You will translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs while ensuring compliance with engineering standards, production capabilities and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new products and improve existing engineering solutions.
• Convert customer requirements and technical specifications into practical, cost‑effective manufacturing designs.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models using SolidWorks and Solid Edge.
• Prepare and maintain manufacturing documentation, including part, fabrication, assembly, sheet‑metal, bracket, and support drawings.
• Generate cutting, bending, welding, machining details and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to enhance production efficiency.
• Review, validate and release engineering drawings for production.
• Manage engineering revisions, drawing control, product codes and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with production teams to ensure successful implementation on the factory floor.
• Prepare shop drawings and installation layouts for diesel generator rooms in collaboration with the Application Engineering team.
• Support continuous product‑improvement initiatives to boost quality, manufacturability and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Ability to translate customer requirements into high‑quality, manufacturable designs while adhering to engineering standards and quality requirements.
• Experience coordinating with production and cross‑functional teams to ensure design implementation.
• Strong attention to detail in creating and managing engineering documentation.
