National Ombuds (Child Safeguarding) – Egypt

About the role

The National Ombuds for Egypt will act as an independent, trusted point of contact for children and young people within SOS Children’s Villages programmes. Reporting to the Regional Ombuds, the role is based in Cairo and operates under the principles of confidentiality, impartiality, independence and informality to resolve safeguarding concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, listen to and assess concerns raised by children, young people and staff.
• Facilitate fair and informal dispute‑resolution processes while maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Identify patterns or systemic issues and provide recommendations to improve safeguarding practices.
• Develop and deliver training and support workshops for staff and child representatives.
• Act as a check‑and‑balance for SOS Children’s Villages Egypt’s safeguarding procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in ombudsmanship, mediation, child safeguarding, child protection or child rights.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as child rights, social work, law, psychology or related discipline.
• At least 3 years experience working directly with children and youth, preferably in community settings.
• Strong listening, observational and communication abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to build trust with marginalized children and young people.
