Operating Engineer (HVAC) – Level 1/2

About the role

The Operating Engineer (HVAC) position supports the Utility Plant Operations at Louisiana State University of Alexandria. You will be responsible for maintaining and operating boiler, chiller, cooling tower, and related HVAC equipment to ensure reliable campus services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, ventilating and refrigeration equipment, air‑conditioning units, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.
• Monitor and adjust operation of boilers, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, and associated valves, gauges, and controls.
• Conduct minor repairs, assist skilled workers with major repairs, and administer chemicals to closed‑loop systems.
• Test water chemistry, maintain heating and cooling units, and oversee electronic automation systems for plant equipment.
• Document maintenance activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Civil Service position – no test score required.
• Successful completion of pre‑employment criminal background check; drug screen and/or physical may be required.
• Willingness to serve a 12‑month probationary period.
• Ability to list all relevant work experience in the application.
