PhD & Postdoctoral Positions in Experimental Optical Quantum Computing

About the role

The Vigo Quantum Communication Center at the University of Vigo seeks motivated candidates for PhD and postdoctoral positions in experimental optical quantum computing. You will join a new quantum computing laboratory to develop a quantum optical neural network aimed at solving combinatorial optimization problems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and test free‑space optical experiments for quantum information processing.
• Develop and implement optical neural network architectures.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present results at conferences.
• Collaborate with the research group to generate new project ideas and funding proposals.

Required profile

• For postdoctoral candidates: PhD in physics or a related field (or near completion), strong publication record, and proven expertise in free‑space experimental optics.
• For PhD candidates: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics or a related field, excellent academic record, and solid knowledge of optics and quantum mechanics.
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

Required skills

• Free‑space experimental optics
• Fundamentals of optics and quantum mechanics
• Neural networks and machine learning (desirable)
• Optical and computational imaging (desirable)
• Analogue electronics and circuit design (desirable)

What we offer

• Opportunity to work in a cutting‑edge quantum optics laboratory.
• Access to state‑of‑the‑art experimental facilities.
• Mentorship from leading experts in quantum optics.
