Job description

About the role

The Quality Operations Engineer applies quality engineering principles, GM Manufacturing System tools and structured problem-solving methods so that manufacturing processes consistently deliver conforming products. The role leads quality improvement initiatives independently, supports manufacturing and support functions, and drives measurable gains in customer satisfaction, first-time quality, cost of poor quality and process capability. It is an onsite, full-time position reporting to the GM office.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide daily quality operations and technical support to production, maintenance, manufacturing engineering and logistics teams.
  • Monitor and improve quality KPIs such as first-time-through, scrap, rework, defects per unit, customer concerns, warranty indicators and cost of poor quality.
  • Maintain standardized work, quality checks, control plans, reaction plans, inspection instructions and process control documentation.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis (5-Why, Ishikawa, DMAIC, error-proofing) for defects, complaints, audit findings and recurring issues.
  • Handle containment, verification and permanent corrective action for quality incidents, and run layered process, torque and compliance audits.
  • Analyze quality data for trends and risks, and drive process capability and variation-reduction initiatives using SPC, MSA, capability studies and Pareto analysis.
  • Support launches, engineering changes, trial runs and process validation, and manage material review, deviations, nonconformances and dispositions.
  • Report quality scorecards to plant leadership and global teams, evaluate improvement suggestions and lead quality projects.
  • Improve and automate quality processes and GMS systems with Microsoft Power Apps, Power BI and other approved tools.

Required profile

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or a related discipline.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in manufacturing quality, quality operations, continuous improvement or operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience leading corrective-action, defect-reduction, audit or process-improvement initiatives with measurable results.
  • Experience applying Lean Six Sigma, GM Manufacturing System and structured problem-solving tools in a manufacturing setting.

Required skills

  • Working knowledge of quality core tools: APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC and capability analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, quality-management systems, data-analysis tools and business-process automation platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills, clear communication of technical information, and attention to detail.
