Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

almentor, the leading Arabic video‑learning platform, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the high‑performance services that power its growing catalogue of courses. You will work closely with product, design, and frontend teams to turn business needs into reliable, scalable backend solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust, secure, and scalable backend systems using modern object‑oriented frameworks.
• Define technical strategy, architecture, and long‑term roadmap for critical backend components.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend/mobile engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications.
• Improve system performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability through proactive monitoring and tooling.
• Mentor junior backend engineers, conduct code reviews, and uphold engineering excellence.
• Participate in sprint planning, write technical documentation, and contribute to cross‑team initiatives.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of backend development experience, including at least 1 year in a mentorship or technical‑leadership role.
• Deep expertise in a modern object‑oriented backend language and strong architectural instincts.
• Proven experience designing and operating large‑scale distributed systems with high availability.
• Solid understanding of databases, caching strategies, and API design.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Excellent problem‑solving, debugging, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required).
