Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join almentor’s engineering team and help build scalable, reliable, high‑performing backend systems that power our video‑learning platform for Arabic‑speaking learners.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build robust, scalable, and secure backend systems and services using modern frameworks and best practices.
• Drive technical strategy, architecture decisions, and long‑term planning for critical backend components.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and frontend/mobile engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve system performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability through proactive monitoring.
• Mentor and guide other backend engineers, conduct code reviews, and uphold high engineering standards.
• Contribute to sprint planning, technical documentation, and cross‑team initiatives as a senior voice.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of backend development experience, with at least 1 year in a mentorship or technical leadership role.
• Deep expertise in at least one modern object‑oriented backend language and strong architectural instincts.
• Experience designing and operating large‑scale distributed systems with high availability and performance requirements.
• Strong knowledge of databases, caching strategies, and API design.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud services (AWS or GCP).
• Excellent problem‑solving and debugging skills with a proactive attitude toward system improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities; Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
