Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Talabat, the on-demand food and Q-commerce app founded in Kuwait in 2004, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer. The role operates across team, domain, chapter and wider tech organisation levels, combining hands-on technical mentorship with driving complex initiatives and shaping the development of the app's architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the voice of your chapter, helping teams understand the chapter direction and providing hands-on technical mentorship
• Drive critical, complex initiatives that impact multiple teams
• Partner with Engineering, Product and Data counterparts (senior managers or directors, other senior engineers)
• Improve systems and processes, remove bottlenecks and drive the RFC review process to deepen insight into the app architecture
• Contribute to the chapter vision and strategy, sponsor key chapter initiatives and orchestrate mentorship across the tech org
• Help improve developer experience, from branding and hiring to making individuals and teams more effective

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an Extreme Programming environment (TDD, pair programming, simple design, continuous refactoring)
• Solid experience building large-scale applications with modern languages such as C#, Java or Go
• Proven ability to mentor other engineers
• Great understanding of lean/agile values and practices
• Empathetic, good verbal and written communication, humble, curious and open-minded

Required skills

• Distributed systems architecture: microservices, event-driven and RESTful services
• Proficiency in automated end-to-end testing
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
• Building, maintaining and improving with trunk-based development and continuous delivery
• Familiarity with the mobile landscape, architectures and emerging technologies
