Staff / Sr. Staff Optics Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Optics Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and optimization of advanced optical systems for sensor products. The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on development across multiple interdisciplinary programs.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive optical system architecture, specifications, tolerances and performance budgets.
• Lead design, simulation, and optimization of complex optical components and subsystems.
• Integrate optics with MEMS, mechanical, electronic and software platforms.
• Oversee optical performance characterization, alignment, reliability testing and root‑cause analysis.
• Review and approve optical designs, test methodologies and engineering documentation.
• Mentor junior and senior optics engineers and foster technical capability growth.
• Collaborate with suppliers, research institutions and external partners on component selection and qualification.
• Support technology scouting, proof‑of‑concept projects, product road‑maps and IP development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Applied Physics, Electronics Engineering or a related field (Master’s/PhD preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in optical system design, development, and characterization for sensor‑related technologies.
• Proven technical leadership in multidisciplinary product development environments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Expert use of optical design and simulation tools.
• Experience with optical laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.
• Proficiency in optical modeling, imaging systems and optical design principles.
• Data analysis techniques and scripting languages for automation.
