Tunnel Design Engineer Section Head

About the role

Hassan Allam Construction seeks an experienced Tunnel Design Engineer Section Head to lead the design and coordination of large‑scale tunnel and underground infrastructure projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams from concept through detailed design, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and technical delivery of tunnel and underground projects from concept to detailed design.
• Develop structural and geotechnical designs for tunnels, shafts, portals, retaining structures and related facilities.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, structural, roads, utilities, rail and MEP disciplines.
• Review geotechnical investigation reports and integrate findings into designs.
• Prepare and review calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and BOQs.
• Conduct design reviews, value‑engineering studies, constructability assessments and risk evaluations.
• Provide technical leadership during execution and support construction by reviewing submissions and resolving engineering issues.
• Ensure compliance with international design codes, client requirements and company quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Master’s degree in Tunnel, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering (or related).
• Minimum 12 years of experience in tunnel and underground infrastructure design.
• Proven experience on major infrastructure projects such as metro, railway, highway or water conveyance tunnels.
• Hands‑on knowledge of TBM, NATM, Cut‑and‑Cover and Drill & Blast construction methods.
• Strong technical leadership, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage stakeholders.
