Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Americas, Asia, and/or World History

About the role

The Sultan Al-Qasimi Department of History at the American University in Cairo seeks scholars of modern world history with expertise in the Americas, Asia, or global history. This open‑rank, four‑year fixed‑term appointment begins in Fall 2027 and offers the opportunity to teach a diverse undergraduate curriculum in English.

Key responsibilities

• Teach three undergraduate courses each semester, including historiographical, methodological, survey, and upper‑level special‑topic seminars.
• Develop and update course materials that reflect the interconnected nature of global history.
• Engage in scholarly research and publish in reputable academic venues.
• Contribute to departmental service, including curriculum development and student advising.

Required profile

• PhD in History (or a closely related field) to be completed by September 1, 2027.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
• Ability to teach in English and to address the role of the Americas and/or Asia in a globalized world.
