Assistant Manager – Banking Legal Services (Intra‑African Trade & Corporate Finance)

About the role

The Assistant Manager in Banking Legal Services will support the Director in delivering legal solutions that enable the Bank to expand and diversify African trade. This role focuses on providing strategic legal advice, managing distressed credit facilities, and coordinating loan recovery and restructuring initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Bank and its subsidiaries on a wide range of banking and finance matters, delivering commercially focused legal solutions.
• Identify legal risks on special projects and provide strategic guidance to mitigate them.
• Manage an assigned portfolio of distressed credit facilities, aiming to minimize loss and maximize recoveries.
• Negotiate and prepare legal documents with counterparties under the Director’s guidance.
• Collaborate with external counsel on loan recovery, restructuring, litigation, and asset attachment processes.
• Develop and recommend solutions for loan work‑out strategies to reduce credit risk.
• Support business activities by researching precedents, presenting solutions, and ensuring proper application of laws and regulations.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert for loan remediation and restructuring, and act as legal stakeholder on internal committees.

Required profile

• Law degree with a strong background in banking, finance, or corporate law.
• Experience handling distressed credit facilities, loan recovery, or restructuring.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with internal and external legal teams.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail.
