Assistant Teacher – Children’s Center

About the role

The Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support daily operations in its Children’s Center daycare. This position works closely with the lead teacher and director to provide a safe, nurturing environment for young children.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise children at all times, ensuring safety and well‑being.
• Maintain accurate headcounts and know each child’s name and age.
• Report special needs, concerns, or suspected abuse to the director.
• Assist the lead teacher with curriculum planning and implementation.
• Prepare and display bulletin boards and visual materials.
• Change diapers, assist with potty training, and administer medication as needed.
• Serve meals and snacks, and help children eat.
• Keep the classroom, restrooms, and common areas clean and orderly.
• Document daily activities, incidents, and other required information.
• Participate in staff meetings, parent conferences, and training workshops.

Required profile

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to pass a child‑care background check.
• Willingness to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification.
• Previous experience in childcare is preferred.

Required skills

• Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
