Big Data Engineer

About the role

Vodafone is looking for a Big Data Engineer to design and maintain the core data platform that powers its software and AI solutions. You will develop high‑performance batch and real‑time pipelines that enable data‑driven decision making across the company.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise large‑scale batch transformation jobs using Apache Spark.
• Build and maintain low‑latency streaming pipelines with Apache Kafka to feed micro‑services.
• Create automated ingestion and orchestration workflows with tools such as Apache Airflow.
• Define and manage the Data Lakehouse, including schema design, data‑quality rules and query‑performance tuning for downstream BI and AI teams.

Required profile

• Strong SQL skills, including complex window functions, CTEs and query‑plan optimisation.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and orchestration, and/or Scala/Java for high‑performance Spark/Kafka development.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts, especially Spark and Kafka internals.
• Familiarity with lakehouse technologies such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake and the Bronze‑Silver‑Gold data‑layer model.
• Basic Linux administration and bash scripting experience.
