Coding Officer

About the role

The Coding Officer is responsible for reviewing inpatient and outpatient medical records to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes. This role ensures compliance with coding standards, supports revenue cycle efficiency, and collaborates with clinical and billing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records to identify reportable diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign and sequence ICD-10‑CM diagnosis codes, CPT procedure codes, and HCPCS Level II codes.
• Apply official coding guidelines, payer‑specific rules, and appropriate modifiers.
• Maintain high coding accuracy while meeting productivity targets.
• Raise physician queries for incomplete or unclear documentation.
• Support internal coding audits, corrective actions, and denial resolution.
• Collaborate with Billing, CDI, Quality, and Revenue Cycle teams.
• Stay current with annual coding updates, guidelines, and payer bulletins.
• Maintain required CEUs to keep professional certifications active.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Medicine, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience in a hospital, clinic, RCM, or insurance environment.
• Hands‑on experience with inpatient and/or outpatient coding.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
