Cost Accountant

About the role

The Cost Accountant will monitor, analyse and report on cost and inventory activities across retail stores and warehouses. This role ensures accurate stock valuation, effective cost control and timely financial reporting to support decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor stock levels, movements and record transfers, returns and adjustments in the ERP system.
• Perform periodic stock reconciliations, support cycle counts and annual physical inventory audits.
• Calculate and validate cost of goods sold (COGS) for retail operations and track purchase prices, landed costs and store‑specific expenses.
• Analyse variances between standard, actual costs and budgets; provide cost analysis for promotions, discounts and clearance sales.
• Prepare regular inventory valuation reports, support month‑end and year‑end closing activities, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and audit requirements.
• Collaborate with store managers, procurement, supply chain and finance teams to monitor shrinkage, wastage and profitability per store and product category.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in cost or inventory accounting, preferably in retail or FMCG.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, CMA or ACCA is a plus.
• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and ability to work cross‑functionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP/Inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis capabilities.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, inventory control and cost allocation.
