About the role

The Cost Control Team Leader will head the cost control function at a steel manufacturing plant, ensuring accurate product costing and driving cost‑saving initiatives. This role works closely with production, supply chain, procurement, maintenance, and finance teams to monitor and improve operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Cost Control team, delivering daily, weekly and monthly tasks on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain standard costing for raw materials, work‑in‑process and finished goods.
  • Analyse production costs, including raw materials, scrap, energy, direct labour and manufacturing overheads.
  • Perform variance analysis (material, labour, overhead, yield, production efficiency) and investigate significant deviations.
  • Monitor actual manufacturing costs against budget and prepare monthly cost reports and dashboards.
  • Support month‑end closing activities related to inventory valuation and cost accounting.
  • Collaborate with production and operations to improve cost efficiency and optimise resource utilisation.
  • Review Bills of Materials and routing structures for costing accuracy.
  • Analyse inventory movements, slow‑moving and obsolete stock.
  • Participate in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Develop cost models for existing and new products and recommend reduction initiatives while maintaining quality.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards and internal controls; support audit requirements.
  • Drive continuous‑improvement projects within the Cost Control function.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Cost Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CMA, CPA or ACCA are a plus.
  • 6–10 years of experience in Cost Accounting or Cost Control, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience in steel manufacturing, heavy industry or process manufacturing is highly preferred.
