About the role
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer to lead efforts against human trafficking and migrant smuggling in the MENA region. Based in Cairo, the incumbent will support the Regional Programme Coordinator and work closely with law‑enforcement and judicial partners.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor the Regional Programme “Preventing and Countering Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in the MENA Region”.
- Design and deliver capacity‑building sessions on detection, investigation and use of modern investigative tools, including virtual assets and dark‑net analysis.
- Organise international workshops and conferences, presenting forensic and investigative findings.
- Draft and maintain operational guidelines and SOPs on cyber‑related investigative techniques.
- Conduct training needs assessments for law‑enforcement and criminal‑justice agencies.
- Track programme implementation, budgets and produce progress reports.
- Prepare written outputs such as background papers, evaluation reports and mission briefings.
- Promote UNODC’s anti‑smuggling work and ensure donor visibility in communications.
- Analyse data trends using visualization methods to support evidence‑based planning.
Required profile
- Advanced knowledge of programme development and management in criminal justice or rule‑of‑law contexts.
- Experience working with law‑enforcement, judicial bodies or international organisations on trafficking or smuggling issues.
- Strong analytical abilities and familiarity with data‑driven reporting.
Required skills
- Proficiency in modern investigative tools for cyber‑crime, virtual assets and dark‑net analysis.
- Ability to develop SOPs and operational guidelines.
- Competence in data visualization (graphs, charts, tables).
