Data Scientist Intern – Hands‑On Experience

About the role

Join Jumia’s Data Science team as an intern and help uncover insights from large datasets that drive business decisions across Africa’s leading e‑commerce platform. You will work on real‑world problems, from customer behavior to catalog optimization, while gaining hands‑on experience with data pipelines and machine‑learning models.

Key responsibilities

• Support analysis of large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and business opportunities.
• Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business challenges into data‑driven solutions.
• Perform exploratory data analysis on topics such as search optimization, finance, and commercial performance.
• Help develop, test, and monitor machine‑learning models and predictive analytics solutions.
• Write and optimise SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
• Contribute to data visualisation and reporting to support decision‑making.
• Support data governance, security, and privacy best practices.

Required profile

• University graduate or currently pursuing a Master’s in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong interest in data analytics, machine learning and solving business problems with data.
• Good understanding of statistics, probability and data‑analysis concepts.
• Analytical mindset, attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Python (basic to intermediate)

• Pandas and NumPy
• Scikit‑learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch (exposure)
• AWS, Google Cloud or Azure (familiarity – optional)
