Instructional Designer – Online Course Development

About the role

The Instructional Designer will partner with Subject Matter Experts to create high‑quality, fully accessible online courses for University of the People. Using proven andragogical methods and modern authoring tools, you will design engaging, interactive learning experiences that meet university standards and ADA/Section 508 compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design and develop online course content.
• Apply instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation best practices.
• Review course materials for copyright, ADA, and Section 508 compliance.
• Work with the Course Developer team to produce accessible, interactive elements.
• Integrate teaching and learning theory and distance‑learning principles throughout the development process.
• Select instructional materials and design learning tools and activities for an interactive online environment.
• Guide the creation of effective assessments of student learning.
• Identify and incorporate high‑quality Open Educational Resources (OER).
• Define course elements such as syllabi, learning outcomes, and curricular mapping.
• Track project progress and ensure timelines are met.

Required profile

• Experience collaborating with faculty, department chairs, and Subject Matter Experts.
• Strong understanding of online instructional design, accessibility standards, and open educational resources.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote, fast‑paced environment.
