International Fisheries Data Collection & Information System Consultant

About the role

The consultant will provide technical leadership for the design, assessment, harmonisation and operationalisation of fisheries data and information systems at both national and regional levels within the Red Sea Large Marine Ecosystem project.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop regional fisheries information systems aligned with GEF and FAO MEL requirements.
• Assess existing national fisheries data platforms and propose harmonised technical specifications.
• Lead capacity‑building activities and stakeholder engagement to ensure data quality and interoperability.
• Implement QA/QC procedures, reporting frameworks and data‑sharing protocols.
• Support the integration of Fisheries Management Information Systems (FMIS) and stock‑assessment tools.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years (120 months) of experience in fisheries data systems, marine science or related fields.
• Proven experience working with regional or international fisheries projects, especially GEF‑funded initiatives.
• Strong understanding of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries and sustainable fisheries management.
