Investment Officer – Private‑Sector Financing

About the role

Proparco, the private‑sector financing arm of the French Development Agency, is looking for an Investment Officer to join its Africa and Mediterranean team. The role involves supporting equity analysis, structuring and execution across Africa and emerging markets, with a split of 50‑60% direct company investments and 40‑50% fund transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior staff in sourcing new investment opportunities.
• Evaluate direct equity participations and investment funds on technical, legal, economic, financial, sustainability and development criteria.
• Analyse, monitor and mitigate project risks, including environmental and social aspects.
• Build financial models and project financial projections.
• Draft and present investment proposals to decision‑making bodies.
• Prepare, negotiate and finalize legal documentation and financial terms.
• Execute initial disbursements and participate in portfolio company or fund governance bodies.
• Monitor investment performance, oversee value‑creation plans and produce portfolio reporting.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of experience in investment analysis, due diligence, valuation or legal structuring of equity transactions.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong analytical, written and interpersonal skills for client and partner interactions.
• Fluent in English and French (both written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel regularly to Africa.
• Interest in development finance and emerging‑market investments.

Required skills

• Advanced financial modelling proficiency in Excel.
