Journalist – Arabic DARS Programme

About the role

The BBC Arabic DARS programme is looking for a journalist to create engaging, accurate and impartial multimedia content for Arabic‑speaking youth aged 11‑16. Based in the BBC Cairo Bureau, you will work across TV, audio, digital and social platforms to deliver educational and journalistic stories that inspire and empower young audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Research, develop and produce educational and news content for TV, audio, digital and social channels.
• Write creative, compelling scripts in Arabic, adapting complex topics for a young audience.
• Pitch and develop original story ideas that work across multiple formats.
• Source footage and assets, edit multimedia pieces and ensure they meet editorial and technical standards.
• Collaborate with producers, presenters and production teams to meet briefs, specifications and deadlines.
• Translate and adapt content between Arabic and English while maintaining BBC standards of accuracy and impartiality.
• Stay current with emerging digital storytelling techniques and propose new approaches to boost audience engagement.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of creating content for television, audio, digital and social platforms, especially for young audiences.
• Deep knowledge of the Arabic‑speaking youth market and ability to make stories relevant and accessible.
• Excellent Arabic writing skills and ability to adapt complex topics for 11‑16 year olds.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced newsroom environment.
