Lead Urban Engineer

About the role

Atkins Realis is expanding its Urban Design practice in Cairo and is looking for a Lead Urban Engineer to own and drive small to medium‑scale urban design and planning projects across the Middle East. You will work closely with senior designers and the Practice Lead to deliver master‑planning concepts, detailed designs, and comprehensive reports.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of small to medium urban design and planning projects, delivering them from concept through detailed design.
• Develop master‑planning and urban design concepts using 3D and digital design tools.
• Produce drawings, graphics, models, and reports that meet Atkins quality standards.
• Lead Middle East projects with full design and delivery responsibility, reporting to the Practice Lead.
• Draft technical reports and contractual documents with minimal supervision.
• Manage project programmes, flagging issues that could affect timelines or budgets.
• Set and agree design standards and parameters with senior team members.
• Review team outputs to ensure they meet client expectations and Atkins standards.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary technical efforts and ensure timely, cost‑effective completion of assigned tasks.
• Guide junior team members, assign work, and mentor them throughout project delivery.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead urban design projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong decision‑making skills with a methodical approach to design challenges.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly.
• Willingness to travel between Atkins offices as project needs dictate.
• Experience identifying additional work opportunities and contributing to business growth.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D modeling and digital design tools.
